Homejoy!
Homejoy for the Week of January 8-12
What is Homejoy? In 4C, there is no such thing as Homework. Homejoy is just that! Joyful!
We are starting the year by building home practices including reading for at least 20 minutes each night and practicing our math facts or playing an online math game.
If it is a challenge for your student to read for 20 minutes a night, that is a home practice to work on and something we can talk about if you have concerns. As the year goes on, students will have varying types of homejoy, but not always the standard math worksheet each night. We are working on making the assignments students bring home more meaningful and not a struggle each night. If we work together, we can help our students be successful at managing their time in and out of school.
Homejoy may look a little different for each child and will depend on the needs of each child. During our reading and writing units, students will work on the accompanying assignments in and out of school. This will help alleviate some of the work that needs to get done during the school day, and it gives parents the opportunity to see what kind of reading and writing their student(s) is doing in school, (as the writing will be on the Google Drives and/or KidBlog).
The assignments students are given to bring home, are not meant to be arduous or painful! Nor are they meant to be "busywork". Fifth graders are expected to practice new concepts, investigate more deeply topics they find interesting, and hone skills such as spelling, grammar, multiplication and division facts--all of which will make them more successful students! If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Ms. Connor!
